 As we have seen lack of adequate vitamin c in our body will cause a series of infection among which are gum bleeding, swollen gums, slow wound healings etc, but this are the symptoms of gingivitis , a gum condition that lead to the periodontal diseases, therefore  vitamin c is very important to our teeth and gums, 
We know that periodontal disease are caused  by the presence of bacteria, when these bacteria accumulate , they form a plaque,  with time  gum swelling, gum bleeding and reddishness is seen,  these are the effect of bacteria, these bacteria are called periodontal bacteria,
 One very important thing here is that when the body immunity is high, our antigens an fight back this bacteria, vitamins c is known to increase body immunity and hence help stop the effect of bacteria.
 Therefore vitamin c should be consumed from time to time as supplement, foods rich in this vitamins like fruits; oranges, grape, pineapples. Guava, pawpaw, melons, etc  should be part of our diet.
In case of severe gum pains, swellings and reddishness, a dosage of vitamin c should be consumed from time, .
