why does listerine burn my gums

listerine like other non-alcohol free mouthwash contain ethanol an organic acid. We all know that acids are corrosive meaning , they burn the skin when come into contact, but ethanol is not a strong acids like  hydro-chloric acids, tro-oxonitrate five s or tetra-oxo-sulphate (iv) acids, they are organic acids ,
organic aids chemically behave like acids but they weak acids meaning that their physical properties on other substance like human skin are less effective ,  this is why ethanol does not burn the human skin like other acids but bring about a stinging or burning sensation.
Listerine contain ethanol because of alcoholic content in it and therefor can cause burning sensation when in contact with sensitive part of the body like the tongue  and gums.
Listerine contain isomers like eucalyptol, menthol, thymol and methyl salicylate, isomers ca cause burning sensation but they are needed to kill the bacteria around the gum.
As obtain from amazon .com Listerine contain the following active ingredients: menthol methyl salicylate , thymol ,Inactive Ingredients: Water, alcohol ,sorbitol solution, flavoring, poloxamer 407, benzoic acid, sodium saccharin, sodium benzoate, FD&C green no. 3.
the methyl salicylate silicate can burn skin when on higher doses, methol also burn the skin, benzoic acid like any other organic acids will give a burning or stinging sensation when in small percentages.
These and other ingredient in Listerine can cause some burning sensation on the skin, this does not mean  that Listerine is not safe for use , infact it has been approved by  FDA for home and personal use,
It doesn’t burn , only a stinging and burning sensation due to the presence of active ingredient needed to kill bacteria.
